Planning Your First Trip to the Bahamas and Spending Time on Exuma Boats

October 10, 2018

Are you considering a trip to the Exumas? It is the perfect getaway to help you forget about all of life’s stresses and spend time in one of the most beautiful places on earth. The water is clear, and the sand is silky smooth. What could be more relaxing? They offer something for everyone, making it the perfect place for family vacations, trips with friends, weddings, team building events, and much more. As you plan your first trip, use some of these pointers on your itinerary, planning for weather, and taking advantage of sightseeing on Exuma boats.

Creating Your Itinerary

As you put together your itinerary for the Exumas, here are some musts to add to your list:
  • Spend an afternoon at the Chat ‘N’ Chill: The Chat ‘N’ Chill is a great restaurant and bar on a beach. However, it has much more than just food. Food is made fresh from scratch, so while you wait, you can relax on the beach, play beach volleyball, check out their stingrays, check out their local dolphins, walk around the area, and more.
  • Explore the Exuma Cays: Immerse yourself in the area and spend time at the Exuma Cays Land & Sea Park. This national park is a “no-take reserve,” meaning it is kept in its natural state. You can explore the area for all that it is both on foot or through diving or snorkeling.
  • Visit the official home of the swimming pigs: Yes, that’s right, swimming pigs! Located in Nassau, spend some time having fun petting and swimming with the area’s pigs. No one is quite sure how they got there, possibly from a shipwreck centuries ago. Regardless, they are friendly and enjoy meeting new visitors every day.

Planning for Weather

When traveling to the Exumas, expect to enjoy sunny days and warm weather! It is hottest and muggiest in June through September, with highs in the light 90s and low 90s. It does not rain often, but when it does, you can expect a day or so of a downpour. This makes it helpful knowing you will most likely not have a week’s vacation of outdoor activities ruined—you might just need to shift your itinerary around a bit. Chances for rain are highest in May to June and September to November.

Sightseeing on Boats

One of the best ways to explore the area is by boat. If you love fishing or are interested in it, the Exumas are the perfect place to bonefish.
